Hi everyone, I’m Travis from Febron.
We get many questions from people wanting to know “Is thinning hair a vitamin deficiency?” Meaning, if I’m not getting enough vitamins, could this be the reason why my hair is thinning?
So today I’m gonna be teaching you exactly why vitamin deficiency can be the reason you started having hair loss, what specific vitamins contribute to hair growth and why you should try them before any medication.
So some of you probably know that biotin and saw palmetto are one of the most powerful supplements that contribute to hair growth, and if you still don’t know why, here is the science behind it.
Let’s start with saw palmetto:
Research on whether saw palmetto works to treat hair loss is limited but promising. An extract of saw palmetto berries may block 5-alpha-reductase, an enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT.
If you don’t know what DHT means for hair loss, you need to check our other video explaining everything you need to know about DHT and hair loss. But for now, let’s just summarize and say that DHT is the number 1 factor for your hair loss.
The components of saw palmetto that block the enzyme work in a similar way as synthetic ingredients in prescription medication for hair loss, and that’s why saw palmetto is so powerful for your hair growth.
We’ve tested it and found that a daily dosage of 500mg a day can be extremely effective for hair loss.
The second and very promising ingredient for hair loss is known to be Biotin.
Your body needs biotin to help convert certain nutrients into energy. It also plays an important role in the health of your hair, skin, and nails.
If you aren’t getting enough biotin, you may experience hair loss or a scaly red rash.
Here I have a Pro tip for you: some of the biotin rich foods are egg yolk, nuts, peanuts, walnuts, bananas, and mushrooms. So do your best to have those in your body to avoid biotin deficiency.
And now I’d like to tell you about another very important vitamin that you should know about and is underrated in regards to hair loss.
I’m talking about vitamin D.
Yup. Vitamin D!
Researches showed that the vitamin D receptor plays an important role in hair cycling, specifically anagen initiation which is the first stage of your hair growth. It means that vitamin D might also be involved in hair growth so its deficiency can be the reason for your hair loss.
Because vitamin D can stimulate new and old hair follicles, when you’re lacking vitamin D in your system, new hair growth can be stunted.
Research shows that the recommended dose of vitamin D is 400 IU of vitamin D daily.
IU stands for International Units. It’s the gold standard for the measurement of a substance in the pharmacology world. Anyway…look for a once-a-day vitamin D supplement or check your multivitamin that you take every day.
A lot of multivitamins have vitamin D in them. Just check the units and make sure that you’re getting the proper dosage for your daily needs which is 400UI. If you go for the straight up Vitamin D supplement to strengthen your hair, make sure you take it with a meal so that it doesn’t upset your stomach. Taking it with food also allows the body to absorb the fat-soluble vitamin correctly.
Speaking of food… food has vitamin D in it too.
If you’re on a budget and don’t wanna buy 50 thousand supplements, Let me give you some
Great foods that are rich with vitamin D:
Fatty fish like salmon or mackerel.
Fish liver oils, animal fats, cod liver oil just to name a few, and many more.
Also, a lot of the foods and drinks we consume have been fortified with Vitamin D such as milk, orange juice, and cereals.
Fortified means the nutrients were added to the food or drink because they
are not naturally occurring. Just check the labels on the back of the product and look for the
daily percentage of Vitamin D it provides per serving.
Now before you go all crazy on vitamin D to help strengthen that hair, please always consult your primary physician. You can request a blood test to check your vitamin deficiencies and surpluses.
Well thank you for your time, I hope you found this information helpful .
