Dry hair can affect Men and Women of all ages, and it happens because your hair does not produce enough oil to moisturize your hair, or your hair lets the moisture escape.

 #1 Hair Care Habits.

It is popular for people to use a hair dryer, curling iron or hair straightener on a daily basis. Most people don’t know that every time you use any of these, you are exposing your hair to hot temperatures that are ripping apart the moisture that your hair needs and this damages your hair’s cuticle. 

I recommend adding a heat protectant to your hair to help combat the harmful effects of hot styling tools before using them.  Also a study done by the Department of Dermatology and Institute of Hair and Cosmetic Medicine came to the conclusion that the best method to blow dry your hair is “using a hair dryer at a distance of 15 cm or 6 inches with continuous motion causes less damage”

 #2 Dyeing your hair.

Dyeing your hair is extremely harmful as the peroxide that is used gets in your hair’s cuticle and opens it. This causes permanent damage to the cuticle because it won’t be able to hold the moisture your hair needs, giving your hair a dry appearance. The longer the hair dye sits on your hair the more damage it causes. 

If you are suffering from dyeing your hair, use a deep conditioner before and after dyeing your hair to replace any moisture that can be lost in the process. 

#3 long-term exposures to the sun. 

Your hair is as sensitive to the sun just as your skin is, and if you spend a long time in the sun it will dry it out. This will also make your hair vulnerable to breakage and can also affect the cuticle’s ability to hold on to its moisture. 

Prepare your scalp with a scalp and hair mist protector that has SPF, wear a hat, use an umbrella, and stay in shady areas as much as you can.

 #4 Physical Health/Diet. 

If you started a new diet recently and noticed that your hair is drier than usual, it could be because you are not eating all the nutrients necessary to build the moisture your hair requires. 

If you have a pre-existing condition such as: an eating disorder or Hormonal problems, these could be a leading factor to your dry hair and can even cause hair thinning due to the lack of nutrients the body is not getting.

Make sure that you eat a balanced diet where all the important nutrients such as protein, omegas and zinc are fulfilled.
